Newspaper article from 2010: When the house was bought http://www.stuff.co.nz/southland-times/news/4058083/Spare-bedrooms-We-ve-got-25-and-bathrooms-for-all-the-family There will be no queues at the bathroom door or fights over the best bedrooms in the Seager family's enormous new house. The Riverton family of six have bought the old nurses' home at Riverton, complete with 49 rooms, including 30 bedrooms and eight toilets. Marina Seager said they wanted to buy a house that could also accommodate other families and people who found themselves without a place to stay. She said it would not be turned into commercial accommodation and was first and foremost a family home for herself, husband Dean and their four school-age children. "We have given it a new name, 'Piringa'. That means shelter or refuge. "We are putting beds in every room and it is available to those who need it. A family's home might burn down or someone gets kicked out of their home or children who need a home," Mrs Seager said. Mrs Seager owns Riverton Childcare and Mr Seager is the caretaker at Aparima College, so they are well used to a full house. The house is 760 square metres. It has not been lived in for 15 years but is still in remarkably good condition. "We do have a man here now fixing 33 broken windows. "It is very solid. The building inspector came through and said when the rest of Riverton goes we will still be standing. Every second wall is made of concrete." She also bought a commercial kitchen on Trade Me because the home did not have any cooking facilities. As far as the cleaning goes, Mrs Seager said they would not be hiring a housekeeper. "The kids get 10 minutes vacuuming every time they call someone a bad name." She said it was the biggest house they had ever owned and was in stark contrast to their first home, which she thought was probably the smallest house in Kaitaia.
