INTRODUCING
We are Patrick and Mary, a married couple in our late 50's early 60's. We have recently retired having lived and worked in Sutherland, a beautiful part of the Highlands of Scotland for over 30 years. Now our children are now grown up and have left home, it is likely that there would be just the 2 of us for any swap, and we prefer to avoid school holidays. We enjoy exploring areas of beautiful countryside, interesting villages and cultural cities in Britain and Europe. We like cycling and country walks.
About Our Home
Light, airy, comfortable house, with private garden in quiet neighbourhood. Outside decking (with table, chairs,BBQ) and conservatory to enjoy the stunning views. Our family have all grown and left home, so our house is now probably most suitable for singles / couples rather than families with young children. Access is via private driveway with a slight incline and steps to garden and the front door. Most people have no problems, but this could be a consideration for elderly and anyone with mobility issues. A gate from our back garden goes directly into woods where there are mountain bike trails and paths leading onto a hill "Ben Bhraggie", which overlooks Golspie and on which stands a massive statue of The Duke of Sutherland, or "The Mannie" as it is known locally, a famous landmark visible for miles around.

Our Location
Golspie is a quiet seaside village in the Scottish Highlands on the Dornoch Firth, about 60 miles (95 Kilometres) north of Inverness, (1 hour by road) capital of the Highlands and Lochness. The county of Sutherland is a beautifully scenic region of the Scottish Highlands with hills, mountains, moors rivers and lochs. It stretches to the west and north coasts about 60 miles away with wonderful quiet beaches, white sand and blue sea, as made famous by the NC 500 road route which passes through Golspie. This is a wonderful area for walking, watching wildlife, golf (Royal Dornoch less than 10 miles away, has been rated in the top 10 courses in the world, Golspie has its own excellent course), mountain biking (trails on the hill right behind house). Dunrobin castle is less than 2 miles away and several more are within day-trip distance. There are 2 whisky distilleries that can be visited within 15 miles. For those interested in archaeology, a day trip to the Orkney isles with Neolithic sites such as Skara Brae can be enjoyed. Golspie is on the main A9 road with regular bus service and rail line, so has good connections south to Inverness and north to Thurso and John O'Groats.

Other Comments
Inverness regional airport has regular flights to Amsterdam, London, and other UK cities. We have enjoyed the overnight ferry from Newcastle (about 6 hours by road) to the Netherlands when taking the car to and from Europe. We have "House-swapped" many times over the last 25 years.
